Description :
Opened in 1997, the Bowery Ballroom is a popular music venue and nightclub that offers great up-and-coming acts as well as established stars.
The hall takes its name from its neighborhood, a small section of Manhattan situated in the southern portion of the island. The neighborhood, in turn, takes its name from the old Dutch word for farm, "bouwerij", because it was part of a farm in the 1600s and 1700s.
The club itself is house in an historic structure, built in 1929 just before the infamous stock market crash. It was often vacant but at one point was the site of a high-end retail store. It is a beautiful Beaux Arts building that retains many of its original elements, including brass and iron metalwork, mahogany walls and vaulted plaster ceiling. |
