Description : With its rich history and continued significance as the bastion of African-American culture and achievement, the Apollo Theater is one of the most important entertainment venues in the country.
Founded in 1913, the Apollo Theater was one of New York City’s leading burlesque venues, opened to white-only audiences. The Apollo Theater finally opened its doors to African American patrons in 1934, 20 years after the building's original opening, showcasing "a colored review" and it has been a leader ever since.
With a handsome terra cotta facade and a magnificent, detailed Art Deco interior, the 1500-seat Apollo continues to be a stage for stars to shine. |
